The homes

The houses

American Oaks is a 1970s single-story neighborhood. Almost every sale here has been a one-level house, most of them three or four bedrooms. The most common plans are about 1,300 and 1,500 square feet. A few owners have added on; the largest house, on Ashwood Court, is now about 3,100 square feet with six bedrooms.

The streets

The tract is built around American Oaks Avenue, with short courts off it. Wendy Park is within a quarter mile, and Deer Ridge Open Space is about a quarter mile south. Neighboring tracts are Wendy Oaks, Shadow Hills, Deer Ridge and Glenridge. Shadow Hills, on Firwood and Maplewood courts, was recorded on the same 1976 tract map as the Firwood, Maplewood, Elmwood and Lemonwood section, and the MLS uses both names on those streets.
