The Conejo Valley is the string of communities along the 101 between the San Fernando Valley and Camarillo: Westlake Village, Agoura Hills, Oak Park, Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park and Lake Sherwood. People move here for the schools, the open space and the low crime, and stay because everything is ten minutes away. This is Gary Jacobs’s home market, and every city in it is mapped tract by tract, with more than 400 neighborhood guides, including every gated community in Westlake Village, the gated communities of Thousand Oaks and Newbury Park and the gated communities of Agoura Hills. See also Dos Vientos Ranch, the parks and trails of Thousand Oaks and single-story homes in Thousand Oaks.

Moving to the Conejo Valley

Which Conejo Valley city fits you?

Westlake Village is built around its lake and straddles the county line, with North Ranch and Lake Sherwood at the top of the market. Agoura Hills and Oak Park are the choices for Las Virgenes and Oak Park schools. Thousand Oaks is the largest city, with the widest range of prices, and Newbury Park at its west end offers newer homes and quick access to the beach at Camarillo and Malibu.

Schools and school districts

Three districts serve the valley. Conejo Valley Unified covers Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park and the Ventura County side of Westlake Village. Las Virgenes Unified covers Agoura Hills and the Los Angeles County side of Westlake Village. Oak Park Unified serves Oak Park and accepts transfer students. Because the county line runs through Westlake Village, the district can change from one street to the next, and every neighborhood guide on this site says which one applies.

Commuting and getting around

The 101 is the spine: about 35 to 45 minutes to the Westside or downtown Los Angeles without traffic, and considerably more at rush hour. Kanan Road and Malibu Canyon reach the coast in 20 to 30 minutes, and State Route 23 connects Thousand Oaks to Moorpark and Simi Valley.
