The neighborhoods

Around the lake

Lake Sherwood is a reservoir created by a dam early in the twentieth century; the name comes from the 1922 Robin Hood film shot in the valley. The first homes were cabins along the shore and on the hillside above the west end. Today the area has several distinct neighborhoods:

Associations

Most homes belong to the Lake Sherwood lake association, which manages the private lake. The gated neighborhoods add their own associations, and Sherwood Country Club homes pay a master association for the staffed gates. The golf club itself is private, with separate membership. Dues vary widely, from about $1,000 a year for the lake association alone to several thousand a year inside the club.

Schools

Lake Sherwood is in the Conejo Valley Unified School District. Listings show Westlake Elementary, Colina Middle School and Westlake High School; confirm the assignment for a specific address with the district.

Getting around

Potrero Road runs east to Westlake Boulevard and the 101, about ten minutes from most of the lake. Permits are handled by Ventura County rather than a city.
