The Westside is everything between the 405 corridor and the ocean, plus the neighborhoods just east of the freeway. On the coast are Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica, Venice, Marina del Rey and Playa del Rey. In the hills are Brentwood and Bel Air. Around UCLA and the office towers are Westwood and Century City. South of there, Mar Vista, Culver City, Palms, Del Rey and Playa Vista have become the home of Silicon Beach.

Moving to the Westside

Which Westside neighborhood fits you?

For estates: Bel Air, Brentwood and Pacific Palisades. For the beach and walkability: Santa Monica, Venice and Playa del Rey. For boats and condos: Marina del Rey. For new construction near tech offices: Playa Vista, Del Rey and Mar Vista. For quiet single-family streets: Cheviot Hills, Rancho Park, Beverlywood and Westchester. For condos and restaurants near the 405: Sawtelle, West Los Angeles and Palms.

Cities and schools

Santa Monica and Culver City are independent cities with their own school districts, which buyers often seek out. Marina del Rey is unincorporated county land. Everything else here is the City of Los Angeles and Los Angeles Unified.

Commuting and getting around

The 405 and the 10 are the freeways, and both are slow at rush hour, so distance to work matters more here than anywhere else on this site. The Metro E Line runs from Santa Monica through West Los Angeles, Palms and Culver City to downtown.
