About Canoga Park

The town was founded as Owensmouth in 1912 when the Los Angeles Suburban Homes Company subdivided the western Valley, and took the name Canoga Park in 1931. Sherman Way through the old town center still has the storefronts and the historic Madrid Theatre, and the neighborhood was the west Valley’s main business district for decades.

West Hills split off in 1987 and Warner Center developed on the neighborhood’s south edge, which left Canoga Park as the flat, gridded core between them. Lanark Park and the Canoga Park Orange Line station are near the center.

Homes and real estate in Canoga Park

Most of the housing is single-story ranch construction from the 1940s to 1960s on lots of roughly 6,000 to 8,000 square feet, which makes Canoga Park one of the lower entry points for a detached home with a yard in the west Valley. Condition ranges widely from original to fully remodeled, and prices follow condition more than street.

Condos, townhomes and apartments line Sherman Way, Topanga Canyon Boulevard, Canoga Avenue and the streets near Warner Center, with buildings from the 1960s through recent construction.
