Sapwi Bike Park and Sapwi Disc Golf: A Complete Local Guide to Thousand Oaks

The beginner pump track at Sapwi Bike Park in Thousand Oaks

Sapwi Trails Community Park at 2225 N. Westlake Blvd. in Thousand Oaks holds two things you will not find anywhere else in the Conejo Valley: the region’s only public bike skills park, and an 18-hole disc golf course that locals and visitors rate 4.4 out of 5. Both are free, both open dawn to dusk, and both are harder than they look from the parking lot.

Most people drive past Sapwi without realizing what is back there. From Westlake Boulevard you see a parking lot, some drought-tolerant landscaping and a hillside. What you cannot see is a 140-acre park containing a pump track, three progressive jump lines, an 18-hole disc golf course with an 828-foot par 5, several miles of multi-use trails, a cross-country running venue and a designated area for flying non-motorized gliders.

This is a guide to the two features people search for most: the bike park and the disc golf course. If you are new to the area, or you have lived here for years and never walked in, this should tell you what to expect before you go.

The main address is 2225 N. Westlake Blvd., Thousand Oaks, CA 91362. The park sits between Erbes Road and Westlake Boulevard, below Avenida de los Arboles.

There are two parking lots, and which one you want depends on what you came to do.

  • Westlake Boulevard lot (main). This is the big one. Disc golf hole 1 is close by, and it is the lot most riders use for the bike park. Drinking water and restrooms are here.
  • Avenida de los Arboles side lot. This one sits near disc golf hole 10 on the opposite side of the course. Also has water and restrooms. If you only want to play the back nine, or you want to shorten the walk, start here.

One quirk worth knowing: the disc golf course is listed in the UDisc app as being in Westlake Village, not Thousand Oaks. It is not. The park is inside Thousand Oaks city limits, on a street named Westlake Boulevard. If you are searching maps or apps and getting confused, that is why.

Sapwi Bike Park is run by the Concerned Off-Road Bicyclists Association, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and a chapter of the International Mountain Bicycling Association, under an agreement with the Conejo Recreation and Park District. Planning started back in 2013. It opened in 2018.

Here is the part that surprises people: unlike most public parks, the bike park does not receive an operating budget from a city or municipality. It was built and is maintained through donations, sponsorships and grants, with volunteer labor doing much of the work.

The park currently has four riding areas.

Feature Who it is for What is on it
Pump track All ages and abilities Designed for continuous laps with multiple line options. No jumping required.
Beginner jump line New riders, kids Mellow berms, small rollers, two dirt table tops. Built so you never have to leave the ground.
Intermediate jump line Riders with some airtime Wood ramp jumps, berms and dirt jumps. Leaving the ground is optional.
Advanced jump line Experienced riders only Five wood ramp jumps where the takeoff is not connected to the landing. You are committing to the air.
Feature list per Sapwi Bike Park (CORBA). An expert jump line is in the fundraising and planning stage.

CORBA has said it is fundraising toward an expert jump line, with plans to buy roughly seven additional expert-level ramps and hire the same construction crew that built the existing lines. No timeline has been announced; the group has said one will come once fundraising targets are met.

The rules that catch people out

Two rules generate the most friction at the gate, and both are worth knowing before you load the car.

  • Pedal bikes only. No e-bikes, no electric scooters, no electric unicycles, no electric motorcycles, no electric skateboards, no remote-control cars. This is not selectively enforced folklore, it is the posted rule.
  • Dogs are prohibited in the bike park. The stated reason is safety conflicts with cyclists. Dogs are fine elsewhere in the park, including on the disc golf course.

Beyond that: a properly rated helmet is required, and a snug full-face helmet is encouraged. The park is unsupervised, open dawn to dusk. Gloves, knee and elbow pads and body armor are recommended. At least one working brake is required. And there is a real request not to ride the dirt features when they are wet: if mud is sticking to your tires or you are leaving ruts, the answer is to come back another day.

If you want to help rather than just ride, CORBA runs scheduled maintenance hours where volunteers are welcome, plus occasional dig days announced in advance. The posted schedule is Thursday mornings; the site is a little inconsistent on the day, so confirm before you show up with a shovel.

Sapwi Disc Golf Course: 18 holes, par 60, and one 828-foot monster

The disc golf course was built in 2018 by the Conejo Disc Golf Club, which maintains it under a memorandum of understanding with the park district that currently runs through October 2027. It is free to play. There is no booking, no starter, no fee.

It is also, by community consensus, one of the better courses in Southern California. On UDisc it carries a 4.4 out of 5 rating across more than 1,700 ratings, with scenery scored 4.6 and shot variety 4.6.

The scorecard tells you where the difficulty actually lives. The front nine is short and technical. The back nine is where the course grows teeth.

Hole Dist. (ft) Par Hole Dist. (ft) Par
1 297 3 10 366 3
2 475 4 11 393 4
3 243 3 12 243 3
4 188 3 13 828 5
5 225 3 14 322 3
6 452 3 15 455 4
7 197 3 16 244 3
8 204 3 17 261 3
9 242 3 18 443 4
Front 9 2,523 28 Back 9 3,555 32
Main layout scorecard per UDisc. Hole 13 is the course signature: 828 feet, par 5.

Hole 6 is a 452-foot par 3, which is a polite way of saying most players are not getting there in one. Hole 13, at 828 feet, is the hole people talk about afterward. Four par 4s and that single par 5 mean your distance game gets tested in a way most municipal courses never bother with.

What locals should actually know before playing

Three practical things.

Rattlesnakes are real here. The course description says it plainly: the terrain highlights the region’s natural chaparral and it is home to plenty of critters. If your disc lands in deep brush, think before you reach. Reviewers consistently recommend hiking shoes rather than sneakers, and bringing more water than you think you need.

This is not a casual first-timer course. Multiple reviewers describe it as an advanced track. If you have never thrown a disc, Rabbit Flats at Thousand Oaks Community Park, 2525 N. Moorpark Rd., is about 2.5 miles away and considerably friendlier. Play there first, then come to Sapwi.

There is an active league. The Conejo Disc Golf Club runs a monthly doubles event at Sapwi and has hosted dozens of events on the course. If you are new to town and want a way to meet people, this is one of the easier doors to walk through.

Bike park or disc golf? A quick honest comparison

Sapwi Bike Park Sapwi Disc Golf

Both are free and both open dawn to dusk. Neither has much shade, which matters from June through September.

What else is inside Sapwi Trails Community Park

The bike park and disc golf course get the search traffic, but they are not the whole park.

  • Several miles of multi-use trails, which CORBA also maintains under its agreement with the park district, along with skills stations along them.
  • A cross-country running venue. Local school programs use it.
  • A non-motorized glider flying area. Hand-launched gliders only, and yes, it is a designated feature of the park.
  • Natural habitat preservation areas, which is part of why the developed portions use no irrigated turf, water-efficient irrigation and drought-tolerant landscaping.
  • A neighborhood park area and terraces, including the Arboles Terrace and Westlake Lower Terrace, which can be reserved through the park district.

The name, incidentally, comes from the Chumash word for the area. The park district uses it across the whole site, which is why you will see “Sapwi Trails” on signs and “Sapwi” alone in the apps.

What Sapwi means if you live in or are moving to Thousand Oaks

I am not going to pretend a bike park moves home values. It does not, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something. What it does do is change what a weekend looks like, and that is a real part of why families pick this side of Thousand Oaks over comparable inventory elsewhere.

What I can tell you is what the Thousand Oaks market has actually done, using identical calendar windows so the comparison is honest.

Thousand Oaks SFR, Jan 1 – Aug 24 2023 2024 2025 2026
Closed sales 197 173 235 193
Median sale price $1,089,000 $1,210,000 $1,304,000 $1,200,000
Average sale price $1,213,636 $1,496,485 $1,648,662 $1,442,884

Sale-to-list price 101% 101% 99% 99%
Four years, same calendar window each year.

As of August 24, 2026 there were 92 active single-family listings in Thousand Oaks, the same count as a year earlier, against 300 closings over the trailing twelve months. That works out to roughly 3.7 months of supply. Homes are still selling close to asking, at 99% of list, but the 101% figures of 2023 and 2024 are gone.

If you are looking at homes in the Erbes Road, Avenida de los Arboles or North Ranch corridors, Sapwi is your neighborhood park whether you ride or not. Worth a walk-through before you write an offer.

No. The park is pedal bikes only. E-bikes, electric scooters, electric unicycles, electric motorcycles, electric skateboards and remote-control cars are all prohibited.

Can I bring my dog?

Dogs are allowed on the disc golf course and in the wider park, but they are prohibited inside the bike park because of safety conflicts with riders.

Do I need a helmet at the bike park?

Yes, a properly rated helmet is required, and a snug-fitting full-face helmet is encouraged. The park is unsupervised, so nobody will hand you one.

What are the hours?

Dawn to dusk. There are no lights.

Where should I park?

The main Westlake Boulevard lot puts you near disc golf hole 1 and the bike park. The Avenida de los Arboles lot puts you near hole 10. Both have water and restrooms.

Is Sapwi in Thousand Oaks or Westlake Village?

Thousand Oaks. The address is 2225 N. Westlake Blvd., Thousand Oaks, CA 91362. Some apps list the disc golf course under Westlake Village, which is a listing error, not a boundary question.

Are there rattlesnakes?

Yes. The course runs through native chaparral and the official description warns about them directly. Wear real shoes and be careful reaching into brush.

How long does a round of disc golf take?

UDisc estimates 2 hours 15 minutes, with players typically spending 1.5 to 2.5 hours. Budget more if the course is busy or you are new to it.

I have been selling homes in the Conejo Valley long enough to know that the parks people actually use matter more than the ones that photograph well. If you are weighing neighborhoods in Thousand Oaks and want an honest read on what daily life looks like in each of them, I am happy to talk it through with no pressure attached.
