Malibou Lake is a private lake community in the Santa Monica Mountains south of Agoura Hills, where Medea and Triunfo creeks meet to form Malibu Creek. The Malibou Lake Club was founded in 1922, and the dam was finished the same year, though the lake did not fill until 1926. About 235 houses stand on roughly 500 parcels around the lake and on the hills above it, built from the 1920s to today. It is unincorporated Los Angeles County with Agoura Hills addresses.

The homes
Around the lake
The Malibou Lake Club was founded in 1922 by George Wilson and Bertram Lackey, who bought 350 acres and built a dam where Medea and Triunfo creeks meet. The lake did not fill until April 1926. The club sold lots around the shore, and cabins and houses went up one at a time over the following decades. The original 1924 clubhouse burned in 1936 and was replaced.
The hillside and newer tracts
Above the lake, Lookout Drive, Crags Drive and Triunfo Drive have houses from the 1920s through the 1990s. A few small tracts were added later: about 26 homes on Westhaven Drive and Waring Drive built from 1992 to 1996, listed as Silver Riviera Estates; about 20 on Vista del Arroyo built in 1996; and about 13 lots on Shadow Creek Drive built from 2012 on.

Malibou Lake is unincorporated Los Angeles County. Building permits, zoning and code enforcement go through the county.
The club
Lakeshore parcels carry membership in the Malibou Lake Mountain Club, which maintains the lake, dam, clubhouse and gate. Read the club’s documents and budget, and ask about assessments for the dam and lake.
What to check
Many homes are old and were built before modern codes. Check permits, septic systems, road access, flood zone status near the creeks, and brush clearance. Get an insurance quote early.
Schools
Malibou Lake is in the Las Virgenes Unified School District. Listings show Sumac Elementary, Lindero Canyon Middle School and Agoura High School. Confirm the assignment for a specific address with the district.
